As a sign of things to come, the Ford F-150 Lightning is a pretty big one. Similar in style to the ever-popular F-150 truck, the Lightning replaces the fossil-fuelled engine with a powerful electric motor. Ford promises that it retains all the offroad capability and load-lugging prowess of the regular F-150 Raptor, so our friends at AmericanTrucks.com have put the two head-to-head to find out the truth.

Presented as a new episode of its YouTube series, ‘The Haul,’ AmericanTrucks’ video compares the 2021 F-150 Ford Raptor with the all-electric 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. Host Justin Dugan provides an overview of each truck before heading out for a test drive, both on and off the road. The video gives F-150 enthusiasts a closer look at each truck’s ins and outs in a fun and informative format.

He begins by discussing the more aggressive stance of the third-generation F-150 Raptor versus the ‘Clark Kent’ version of the Lightning. Moving on to the interior, Justin touches on the screen size, the steering wheel and seating before moving on to what’s under the hood. Will the Lighting’s speed and fuel savings win out over the familiar face (and sound) of the twin-turbo 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6?
