Mitsubishi has returned to equestrian sponsorship in suitably conspicuous fashion, using two new L200 pickups to help create a cross-country obstacle at the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials.

The obstacle formed fence four of the course, with two white Mitsubishi L200 Series 7 pickups positioned end-to-end around a wooden structure.

More than 70 competitors tackled the fence during the four-day event, including Olympic riders Tom McEwan, Laura Collett and Zara Tindall. Mitsubishi also sponsored the event’s VIP Palace Pavilion.

The partnership marks Mitsubishi’s first move back into equestrian sport since establishing its new dealer network and relaunching vehicle sales earlier this year.

It also revives a lengthy relationship between the brand and the equestrian world. Mitsubishi previously sponsored the Badminton Horse Trials for almost three decades and supported numerous riders, grassroots competitions and towing-safety programmes.

“Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has long been linked with equestrian competitions and competitors, at all levels of the sport,” said Toby Marshall, managing director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK.

“Our partnership with Blenheim International Horse Trials provides an ideal showcase for the all-new L200 Series 7 as well as the new Outlander PHEV with their exceptional four-wheel drive, fuel efficiency and towing capabilities.”
