Volkswagen has expanded its plug-in hybrid range with the introduction of the Caddy Cargo eHybrid, now available to order at a starting price of £27,180 before VAT and OTR fees.

The Caddy eHybrid pairs a 115hp 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 150hp and 350Nm of torque. Power goes to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The vehicle’s 19.7kWh battery allows for a significant electric driving range — official WLTP lab-based figures suggest up to 73 miles. With the average van covering fewer than 50 miles per day, it’s suitable for most missions, particularly for urban environments where zero-emission vehicles are increasingly required.

Recharging the Volkswagen Caddy eHybrid’s battery can be done at home using AC wall boxes at up to 11kW, while the van will accept up to 50kW from a rapid DC charger. A 10-minute top-up while picking up some lunch should add enough energy to the battery to power the van for another 30 miles.

Despite its compact design, the Caddy Cargo eHybrid retains the same maximum load length of 2,150mm and a load volume of up to 3.7m³, while also boasting an increased maximum payload capacity of up to 740kg for the SWB Commerce Plus model. However, some models have lower payload limits than their diesel-driven equivalents, dropping as low as 635kg, so buyers will need to check which model is suitable for their needs.

Buyers can choose from three trim levels: Commerce, Commerce Plus, and Commerce Pro. The base Commerce trim includes features such as a 10.4-inch infotainment system, a digital driver instrument panel, Bluetooth connectivity, and cruise control. Moving up to Commerce Plus adds conveniences like storage compartments under the seats, improved seating comfort, and App-Connect functionality. The top-tier Commerce Pro trim includes a navigation system, heated seats, wireless App-Connect, and front and rear parking sensors.
