Order books and price details for the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor are now open, with buyers needing to splash out £57,340 for the V6-powered pickup truck.
The online configurator
is also now up and running, allowing potential customers to create the perfect Ranger Raptor. Options include the Raptor Splash Decal Pack (£600) and exterior “Raptor Pack” (£1,860), which includes a cab roll-over bar and power roll-top Tonneau cover. The bold new Code Orange premium paint, exclusive to the Ford Ranger Raptor, comes with a £720 price tag.
“Being able to build their dream Next-Gen Ranger Raptor is now a reality for our customers and they can experiment with the range of options with our online configurator,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe. “Whatever the combination, Ranger Raptor will always deliver its trademark ultimate off-road driving experience.”
Ford Ranger Raptor: The Upgrades
A petrol-fuelled 3.0-litre V6 engine will power the Raptor, with the twin-turbo engine producing 288hp of power and 491Nm of torque. Justin Capicchiano, Ford’s Ranger Raptor program supervisor, explained that Raptor “isn’t just fast compared to other midsized trucks. It’s fast, period. It’s hot hatch fast.”
Backed by an anti-lag system to remove delays in power delivery, all 288hp is sent through a 10-speed automatic gearbox that’s been calibrated specifically for the Raptor, before finding its way to an advanced full-time four-wheel-drive system with an all-new electronically-controlled on-demand two-speed transfer case.
Suspension updates include lightweight aluminium upper and lower control arms, while the rear leaf springs have been removed and replaced with a Watts link rear end. Fox 2.5-inch Live Valve internal bypass shock absorbers feature cutting-edge control technology offering position-sensitive damping capability. They’re the most sophisticated ever fitted to Ranger Raptor.
Visually, flared fenders cover muscular 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Raptor-exclusive BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tyres. Functional vents, aero features and tough, grippy cast-aluminium side steps help enhance the look and functionality of the truck. The rear bumper features an integrated step pad and towbar that is tucked up high to avoid compromising the departure angle.
The cabin features sports seats – allegedly inspired by those in the F-22 Raptor military jet – but remains otherwise similar to the regular Ford Ranger. It therefore features a 12.0-inch vertically mounted infotainment screen that houses Ford’s Sync 4 software, while there’s also wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Ford Ranger Raptor Commercial Consideration
The £57,340 price tag for the Ford Ranger Raptor includes VAT but, as the payload won’t reach the one-tonne threshold the HMRC requires for it to be considered a dual-purpose vehicle, business buyers won’t be able to reclaim the VAT element.
