Inspiring Vet Care has ordered a fleet of KGM Musso EV electric pickups for use across its network of veterinary practices and specialist operations.

The organisation operates more than 900 veterinary practices, hospitals and referral centres, alongside farm and equine services.

Novuna Vehicle Solutions is funding the fleet, while West Midlands conversion specialist Gearmate will equip each pickup with storage designed around Inspiring Vet Care’s operational requirements.

The Gearmate conversions will provide modular and bespoke storage for equipment carried by veterinary teams working across urban, rural and remote locations.

Electric pickup for rural veterinary work

The KGM Musso EV uses an 80.6kWh battery and offers up to 240 miles of WLTP range. Its twin-motor powertrain produces 207hp and 339Nm of torque, with full-time all-wheel drive fitted as standard.

Payload reaches 690kg, while the pickup can tow a braked trailer weighing up to 2,300kg. Self-levelling rear suspension helps maintain the vehicle’s ride height and stability as the load changes.

Vehicle-to-load technology can also supply electricity from the traction battery to compatible equipment, potentially adding useful flexibility for teams working away from mains power.

The five-seat double-cab interior provides space for colleagues or clients, while the separate pickup bed allows equipment and other materials to be carried away from the passenger compartment.

“Our fleet operates across a wide range of environments, so it is essential that the vehicles we choose combine practicality, reliability and capability,” said Lee Corrigan, head of fleet UK and Ireland at Inspiring Vet Care.

“The Musso EV gives us the versatility of a pick-up with the benefits of an electric powertrain, while its all-wheel drive, towing capacity, practical load bed and comfortable cabin make it well suited to our operational requirements.”

The pickups will support Inspiring Vet Care’s Positive Pawprint sustainability programme, which includes moving parts of its fleet towards hybrid and electric vehicles.

Rexton Commercial joins the fleet

Inspiring Vet Care has also ordered KGM Rexton Commercial vehicles for roles requiring additional enclosed carrying capacity or heavier towing.

The diesel-powered, two-seat commercial 4×4 provides a 2,200-litre load compartment and a payload of more than 700kg. Its selectable four-wheel-drive system includes low range, while maximum braked towing capacity is 3,500kg.

Gearmate will also convert the Rextons to suit the veterinary group’s requirements.

Alex Warren, national fleet sales manager at KGM Motors UK, said the mixed order demonstrated that fleet electrification doesn’t have to mean using the same powertrain for every role.

“Fleet requirements are rarely one-size-fits-all, and our combination of electric and diesel commercial vehicles enables us to support customers with different operational demands,” he said.
