Updated Mercedes Citan gets payload boost and new tech options • Professional Pickup

Despite being set to withdraw from the compact van sector, the Mercedes Citan is getting a handful of updates, with higher payload limits, a fresh engine option and a new technology pack all joining the line-up.

Citan vans fitted with the 110 diesel engine benefit from a payload upgrade, giving operators a little more flexibility without extra cost. The biggest uplift comes on the short-wheelbase L1 Base model, which can now carry an additional 201kg, bringing it closer to rivals such as the Ford Transit Connect and Renault Kangoo.

There’s also a new 112 diesel variant, developing 116hp and 270 Nm of torque, paired exclusively with an automatic gearbox. It joins the existing 95hp engine, slotting in as the most powerful diesel in the Citan line-up.

Mercedes has also added a Special Edition Technology Pack, available on both diesel and electric Citan Pro models for £995 (plus VAT). It brings useful upgrades, including satellite navigation, wireless phone charging and Active Parking Assist, which can automatically help find and steer the van into tight spaces.

The Citan has long been one of the more refined and comfortable vans in the small segment, sharing much of its engineering with the Renault Kangoo but standing apart with its improved driving dynamics, premium interior finish and unlimited mileage warranty support.

These latest tweaks don’t transform the Citan, but they make the range more appealing for owner-drivers and small businesses wanting an upmarket small van that can still handle a decent load.

The improved models are coming through from the factory now. The Citan 110 starts from £21,575 plus VAT for the BASE L1, rising to £27,175 for the Select trim. The new 112 engine adds £1,875 across the range.

Electric eCitan models are priced from £32,700 to £38,130 before the Plug-in Van Grant.
