The Mitsubishi L200 is preparing to enter the ring as part of a promotional campaign accompanying the new Street Fighter film.
Mitsubishi has teamed up with the live-action video game adaptation ahead of its arrival in cinemas on 16 October 2026, drawing a connection between the fighting qualities of its latest pickup and those of Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li.
It’s probably best not to examine that connection too closely. The L200’s 204hp bi-turbo diesel engine should provide plenty of pulling power, but Mitsubishi has yet to confirm whether its warranty covers damage caused by Hadoukens.
The campaign will run through participating Mitsubishi dealers and the brand’s social media channels, supported by advertising carrying suitably combative slogans including ‘Challenge Accepted’, ‘Ready for Every Fight’ and ‘Power When It Matters Most’.
Fans will also have the chance to win a holiday to Zante in Greece, along with exclusive Street Fighter merchandise – although the only Greek stage in the Street Fighter video game series was in Mykonos. Full competition details have yet to be announced.
Set in 1993, just after the Street Fighter II game, the new film sees estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters reunited when Chun-Li recruits them for another World Warrior Tournament. Predictably, the contest turns out to involve rather more than a straightforward sequence of fights.
Mitsubishi says the partnership reflects the “strength, determination and resilience” shared by the film’s characters and the new L200. Unlike the fighters, the pickup can also tow 3,500kg and carry a payload of more than one tonne.
“The new Street Fighter film delivers action, excitement and determination in abundance, qualities that perfectly reflect the all-new Mitsubishi L200,” said George Wallis, head of marketing for Mitsubishi Motors in the UK.
“Renowned for its durability, capability and go-anywhere attitude, the L200 pick-up has earned a reputation as a true champion both on and off the road.”
There’s no Street Fighter special edition, character-themed paintwork or illuminated gear lever inviting drivers to ‘insert coin’. This is simply a promotional partnership, although an L200 wearing a sumo-inspired E. Honda livery feels like a missed opportunity.
