Tougher, Techier Toyota Hilux: Updated Pickup on Sale Now

An updated Toyota Hilux goes on sale this week, with the 2024 GR Sport II model leading the range with an updated design and several technical enhancements.

This model includes a double cab powered by a 2.8-litre engine producing 204hp and 500Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It boasts a top towing capacity of 3,500kg and a payload capacity of 1,000kg.

The GR Sport II improvements include a wider track, increased ride height, and upgraded handling features, such as better steering response and reduced vehicle roll. Noise and vibration have been minimised, and the suspension and brakes have been updated.

Design modifications feature red coil springs and coloured dampers — black at the front and red at the rear — new 17-inch black alloy wheels, and red brake callipers. The vehicle also includes an aero sport bar and a soft cover for the load area, with black badging and GR Sport branding throughout.

The vehicle’s exterior is marked by black G-mesh grilles and classic TOYOTA lettering, complemented by black side steps, mirrors, door handles, and a rear bumper. A silver front under-run and GR Sport badges enhance the vehicle’s appearance.

The cabin features a black and red colour scheme with red seatbelts, paddle shifts, and aluminium pedals, reflecting its motorsport influence. The sports seats are upholstered in black synthetic suede and leather with silver stitching.

The Hilux GR Sport II has the Toyota Smart Connect+ multimedia system featuring an 8.0-inch touchscreen. It supports Apple CarPlay wirelessly and Android Auto via a USB connection. The system also offers cloud-based navigation with real-time traffic updates, with an offline option for when signal strength is an issue. A nine-speaker JBL premium audio system is also standard.

Over-the-air updates for multimedia and safety systems are facilitated through the vehicle’s data communications module.

Technical upgrades include an improved approach angle, increased ground clearance, and wider tracks. A new front air curtain, bumper, and fog lamp bezel design enhances aerodynamics. The vehicle also sports a new aero bar and deck cover. New monotube dampers replace the previous twin-tube units, and the vehicle is equipped with new lighter wheels, all-terrain tyres, and upgraded front and larger rear disc brakes.

The Hilux GR Sport II is priced at £49,750, with deliveries expected later in 2024.

The Toyota Hilux Invincible model also sees updates, including smart entry, an 8.0-inch multimedia touchscreen, and a reversing camera. It is available with a 2.4-litre engine and six-speed automatic transmission or a 2.8-litre engine with manual transmission, the latter being the only option for the Invincible X variant.
