Ineos Automotive has joined forces with defence vehicle conversion specialist SMT Defence and military vehicle manufacturer and integrator NMS UK to form Team Grenadier, a consortium aiming to supply Grenadier-based vehicles for the Ministry of Defence’s Light Mobility Vehicle programme.
The collaboration will use the Ineos Grenadier platform as the basis for a range of specialist military vehicles, with the chassis cab providing the commercial and conversion-friendly underpinnings closely related to the Quartermaster pickup.
Ineos says the project will make use of the Grenadier’s ladder-frame chassis, permanent four-wheel drive, beam axles and payload capacity, giving military converters a robust base for different operational roles.
The Grenadier Multi-Role Light Vehicle, or MRLV, is described as one of nine modular Light Mobility Vehicle applications being developed around the platform.
The partnership combines British design, engineering, second-stage manufacturing and in-life support.
SMT Defence will provide specialist conversion and systems integration expertise, including modular vehicle architecture, high-payload configurations and survivability-focused design.
NMS UK will support production, integration and fleet assurance, with the consortium highlighting UK-based manufacturing, supply-chain resilience and long-term support as key parts of the proposal.
The Ineos Grenadier has already found users among fire, police and rescue services around the world, and the manufacturer is now positioning the platform for more formal military use.

However, the announcement does not confirm that Ineos has won the MoD Light Mobility Vehicle contract. Instead, Team Grenadier is positioning itself as a UK-based contender for the programme, with a platform it argues is already suited to the kind of long-service, high-abuse use required by defence fleets.
