Renault has introduced the Master H2-Tech Prototype, a hydrogen-powered addition to its range, at the IAA Transportation event in Hannover. Developed by Hyvia, Renault’s joint venture with Plug, this hydrogen-powered van promises a WLTP range of up to 435 miles and a rapid hydrogen refuelling time of just five minutes, making it a practical zero-emission option for users needing extended operational uptime.

The hydrogen-fuelled van joins the existing lineup of diesel-powered and electric-powered Master models.

Hydrogen Hybrid Power

The Master H2-Tech combines a 30kW hydrogen fuel cell with a battery system, delivering efficient energy management. The hydrogen fuel cell generates electricity by combining hydrogen stored in onboard tanks with oxygen from the air, emitting only water vapour as a byproduct. The fuel cell works alongside a 20kWh battery pack, which stores energy recovered during regenerative braking and provides additional power during acceleration.

The hydrogen is stored in one of two tank options — 7.5kg or 9kg — offering flexibility for different range requirements. Developed with partners OPmobility and Forvia, these tanks ensure the van achieves best-in-class range while maintaining its payload and cargo space.

Renault’s integrated hydrogen architecture allows the fuel cell and tanks to fit seamlessly into the vehicle platform, preserving load capacity.

Hyiva Building Infrastructure

The Master H2-Tech is part of Hyvia’s broader vision to support hydrogen mobility across Europe. Alongside the van, Hyvia is rolling out hydrogen refuelling stations, including the proprietary Hywell stations developed with French hydrogen fulling station leaders Atawey. These stations will further extend the growing public hydrogen network.

Hyvia also offers financing solutions to support businesses transitioning to hydrogen technology.

Renault Master H2-Tech Availability

Buyers will be able to choose from multiple configurations, including panel van, floor cab, and chassis cab options. Renault Pro+ bodybuilders can customise these vehicles for use as refrigerated transport, ambulances, tippers, and more.

While internal combustion and electric versions are already available, the new Renault Master will be available in a hydrogen H2-Tech version in 2025.
