Nissan Navara: Four Star Crash Test Safety Rating • Professional Pickup

The new Nissan Navara has mixed results in the Euro NCAP crash safety test, coming out with a total of four stars from a possible five.

The testing revealed that passenger protection is good during on offset crash, but fell short when tested against a rigid barrier. Rear passengers fare worst, with chest protection rated as poor.

However, there is good news for side impact protection, with the Nissan Navara scoring top marks in that crash test, with good protection for all. The results of the more demanding pole test, which simulates sliding sideways into a telegraph pole or tree, were generally good.

Tests on the front seats and head restraints showed that good protection would be provided against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision. However, an assessment of the rear seats by Euro NCAP indicated poor protection for the occupants there.

The Navara has an optional automatic emergency braking system to provide additional protection at city driving speeds. However, as the system is not standard, its low-speed functionality did not qualify for assessment.

Individual ratings show the Navara scored 79% for its adult occupant protection, and 78% for child occupant protection. The pickup truck scored well for the ease of child seat installation. Pedestrian protection scored 78% while safety assistance was rated at 68%, losing marks thanks to some safety equipment being optional.
