The UK’s first electric pickup truck has been revealed as Maxus took the covers off the T90EV at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham.

Ahead of its full launch, details are rather scarce, but the T90 has existed in China and other territories for a little while now, where it’s also available badges as an MG Extender.

Under the bonnet you’ll find a 204hp electric motor, generating 310Nm of torque. That’s powered by an 88.5kWh battery pack that should be enough to propel the T90EV for around 200 miles. With power and torque figures comparable to rival pickups, performance should be sufficient for all but the most demanding driver.

Off-road capability hasn’t been overlooked in the move to extend the vehicle’s range, although the T90EV will only be available as a rear-wheel-drive model initially.

Carrying a hefty battery pack means cargo capacity will be limited, with Maxus expecting the final product to max out at 740kg. While that will limit appeal to those needing to shift heavy items, the 1,485mm long load box will ensure there’s plenty of cargo capacity for lighter items. With a stainless steel sports bar and outside roop hook, it’s a quick and easy job to securely tether a load in the back.

The interior feels reasonably spacious thanks to a neat if simple dashboard design and floor console, making more room for both occupants and storage. Manoeuvring will be made easier by the addition of a reversing camera.

Prices haven’t been announced yet, but they should be finalised by July, with Maxus dealers taking orders in August. First deliveries are expected early in 2023.
