SsangYong is giving the Musso pickup another refresh, with a significantly upgraded interior to match a refreshed and updated body.
Revealed in Korea — where it’s known as the KG Mobility Rexton Sports Khan Culmen following the manufacturer’s acquisition by the KG Group — the revised model receives a grille that’s an evolution of the current version, with an octagonal design sitting within an updated version of the existing horizontal beams. On the pickups revealed in Korea, the headlights receive a full LED treatment, with LED fog and cornering lights visible.
At the back of the pickup, the Musso gains new T-shaped taillights and revised exhausts, and new wheels will adorn the side profile.
As with the previous facelift, there have been no changes to the body panels, so the dimensions remain exactly as they did before. Likewise, the regular Rexton Sports Khan (without the Culmen nameplate) retains the existing front end, although does receive the other updates.
SsangYong Musso: Classy Interior Upgrade
Step inside, and the changes are far more significant. An entirely new dashboard will be introduced, with a larger, 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen dominating the centre stack. In a change from the current model, which makes do with screens up to 9.2 inches, the screen sits proud of the top of the dashboard rather than being integrated into the console.
Moving the screen higher has freed up space below, with horizontal vents that merge with a wider trim panel adding a premium feel to the cabin. Underneath sits a new climate control panel with touch-sensitive buttons rather than switches. Further down, USB-C outlets replace the outdated USB-A sockets.
The driver will find another 12.3-inch screen in front of them, as with the current generation Musso Saracen models, acting as a customisable instrument panel.
SsangYong Musso: No Powertrain Changes
No changes are expected to be made to the engine and drivetrain, meaning the Musso will retain its refined 2.2-litre diesel engine. The unit develops 202hp and 400Nm of torque, delivered through a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox to a part-time four-wheel drive system.
There’s no reason to assume the current fuel economy figure of up to 33.5mpg will be any different from the revised model.
SsangYong Musso: No New Name?
The new models were shown in Korea with a KG Mobility
badge on the back — the name of the corporate entity that owns the brand — but conspicuously wore the existing SsangYong logo on the grille and interior. SsangYong in the UK hasn’t confirmed a change of name to KG Mobility, with Kevin Griffin, managing director of SsangYong Motor UK, saying, “With regards to the company change of name, we will confirm more detail around the impact to the UK in due course.”
SsangYong Musso: Price and Availability
Production of the revised model is expected to start in the third quarter of the year, with customer availability later in 2023. We expect the UK to receive the updated vehicle, with deliveries to be in the first half of 2024. Prices are unlikely to change significantly, with Professional Pickup expecting around a £1,000 uplift over the price in force at the time.
