Isuzu has used the 2026 Brussels Motor Show to introduce a revised D-Max powered by a new 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, marking the end of the long-serving 1.9-litre unit.
The newly developed four-cylinder ‘MaxForce’ RZ4F engine produces 163hp and 400Nm of torque, which isn’t hugely different to the output of the outgoing unit.
While peak outputs tell part of the story, Isuzu is placing particular emphasis on low-rev response, claiming substantially higher torque availability from just 1,000rpm, and all 400Nm between 1,600 and 2,400rpm — a characteristic aimed squarely at towing and load-carrying duties.
A new eight-speed automatic transmission will also replace the previous six-speed unit, although a six-speed manual gearbox will remain available on selected versions. The additional ratios are expected to improve refinement and efficiency, particularly at motorway speeds where the existing D-Max can feel a little busy.
Combined fuel economy is quoted from 33.2mpg.
The new 2.2-litre powered D-Max retains a 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity. Payload capacity continues at up to 1,200kg depending on configuration, ensuring the D-Max remains comfortably within commercial vehicle territory.
Ground clearance is listed at 235mm, and wading depth at 800mm.
As before, buyers will be able to choose between single cab, extended cab, double cab, and the new double-cab commercial body styles.
Safety technology also receives attention. The updated model carries a five-star Euro NCAP rating and features Isuzu’s Intelligent Driver Assistance System (IDAS), including autonomous emergency braking with turn assist, adaptive cruise control, trailer sway control and a 360-degree camera system.
UK pricing and full model line-up details will be confirmed closer to launch.
