Ford has made its first hint at a forthcoming hybrid-powered Ranger pickup with a mysterious social media teaser video.
Posting to X, formerly known as Twitter, Ford UK showed a 10-second video that mixes urban driving with open country roads, hinting at a Ranger that can excel in both environments.
It captioned the teaser video with “Why compromise if you could get the best of both worlds?” followed by a pair of eyes and a lightning flash that suggests a Ranger with hybrid electric power. The date of 19 September 2023 was overlaid on the video, which is likely to be the date that all is officially revealed.
Ford sent similar tweets in other territories, including Germany
and Australia, which added the text “Why compromise when you can get the best of both worlds?” (in German) and “The best of both worlds is coming”, respectively, and also included the date of 19 September 2023.
Ford has several engines that could be installed in a hybrid-powered Ranger, including the 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid unit fitted to the Kuga. This develops 225hp and 300Nm of torque while offering up to 31 miles of zero-emission electric range.
However, it’s understood that Ford has been developing its 2.3-litre Ecoboost petrol engine to work with a plug-in hybrid system alongside multiple electric motors, which makes for an exciting possibility.
