Ford has confirmed that its E-Transit Custom will be available with all-wheel drive (AWD) from spring 2026. The 4×4 update to the van will boost its appeal for operators working in difficult driving conditions, and is also likely to appeal to leisure vehicle converters and campervan builders looking for added go-anywhere versatility.
The new AWD system promises greater traction and stability for users needing dependable performance in regions prone to snow, ice, or mud, such as the Scottish Highlands.
Rather than a single motor powering the rear wheels, the AWD version of the E-Transit Custom features a dual-motor setup. This adds a second high-power electric motor to the front axle, allowing torque to be delivered independently to both axles. According to Ford, this will maximise grip on steep slopes and in poor weather, while also improving general vehicle dynamics.
The AWD variant will be offered across a range of body styles, including the more aggressive-looking Trail trim.

While technical specifications and range figures haven’t yet been revealed, Ford says more details will follow closer to the van’s launch. It will debut in Spring 2026 alongside an all-wheel drive version of the E-Tourneo Custom, Ford’s electric people mover based on the same platform.
