The Toyota Hilux AT35 is to be made available to order from Toyota dealerships this summer, 11 years after Top Gear’s famous North Pole expedition. Making its debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show on the 24th of April, the Hilux AT35 marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic pickup truck.

Toyota Hilux AT35: Arctic Trucks

Arctic Trucks can trace its history back to the 1980s when the official Toyota importer for Iceland, P. Samúelsson hf., started an in-house engineering department to adapt Land Cruisers, Hilux’s and 4Runners for the country’s extreme terrain.

By 2005, Arctic Trucks had expanded to other countries and separated from Toyota Iceland in order to peruse projects with other manufacturers. The company is a firm favourite among scientists, explorers and adventurers who need vehicles to transport them across the inhospitable polar regions.

Toyota Hilux AT35: Specification

As with the other Arctic Trucks projects, the Hilux AT35 is more practical and racy, thanks to its beefy new look. The suspension has been raised slightly and fitted with Fox Shox for a better ride over tough terrain, and the standard wheels have been replaced by 17 x 10in wheels with Rotiiva 315/70R17 tyres.

In total, the chassis has been raised 75mm so the ground clearance is now in excess of 300mm. The angle of approach has increased to 37 degrees, departure to 28 degrees and the ramp-over to 28 degrees. The AT35 also features fender flares and there’s a whole range of optional extras, including light bars and a sports bar.
