Isuzu has confirmed that the D-Max will gain a new 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine, several months after Professional Pickup first reported that a larger-capacity replacement for the existing 1.9-litre unit was on the way. The updated pickup is due to make its public debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show before reaching UK dealers in July 2026.

The new Euro 6-compliant 2.2-litre diesel, codenamed RZ4F, is an evolution of the existing engine, and will be offered with an optional eight-speed automatic transmission. The headline figure is 400Nm of torque, a healthy 11% increase over the current model. We don’t expect the current pickup’s power output of 164hp to change significantly.

Crucially, the updated model retains its one-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne towing capacity, meaning it continues to tick the boxes that matter most for business users, rural operators and anyone who actually needs a pickup to do pickup things.

The revised D-Max range will continue to be offered in Single Cab, Extended Cab and Double Cab forms. A new DL40 Extended Cab has also been added, giving buyers another option if they want extra load length without dropping to a lower trim level.

Away from the engine bay, Isuzu has given the 2026 model a modest visual and equipment update. Changes include a revised front grille, updated front and rear lights, and a new Urban Moss metallic paint option for the range-topping V-Cross, which also gets revised alloy wheels and updated side steps. New Dunlop low-rolling-resistance tyres are also fitted, which Isuzu says improve fuel efficiency while offering better wet-surface grip.

There are updates to driver safety systems, with a Driver Monitoring System now standard across the range, and a 360-degree surround-view camera on DL40 and V-Cross versions.

Inside, Isuzu says it has also introduced new seat trim designs in cloth and leather, depending on specification.

As well as the increased torque enabled by the 2.2-litre engine, the new Isuzu D-Max retains and builds upon its exceptional reliability in commercial and rural environments.”

The new D-Max is available to pre-order now, with first UK deliveries due from July 2026. Prices will start from £33,495 CVOTR, with full pricing and model details to be confirmed during the CV Show at the NEC Birmingham from 21 to 23 April.
