Nissan has pulled the covers off its next-generation 2026 Navara, revealing a Mitsubishi-based continuation of the long-running nameplate that we won’t be getting in the UK.
Built from the Mitsubishi L200: What’s shared?
Pretty much everything. The pair share the same ladder-frame platform developed within the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, as well as the body-in-white that’s bolted on top.
Under the bonnet is the same 2.4-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder that powers the L200 — or Triton as it’s known in most other countries. Output matches the Mitsubishi at 204hp and 470Nm, paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox. Combined consumption is around 36–37mpg.
Electric power steering features across the range, and the choice of part-time or full-time four-wheel drive systems mirrors the options available on the global L200. A rear locking differential and a seven-mode terrain system complete the mechanical setup that the two pickups share.
One of the few areas where Nissan adds unique value is in suspension tuning. The manufacturer has developed its own damping and chassis calibration for this version of the truck, giving the Navara a slightly different ride and handling balance while still relying on Mitsubishi’s hardware underneath.
Distinctive Nissan Navara style?
Visually, the Navara moves away from the softer lines of the old D23 and leans into something much tougher and squared-off. Nissan’s design team says it drew inspiration from modified Australian utes, and it shows.
Rather than a ground-up Nissan design, the Navara takes the L200’s body and applies a new front end to give it Nissan’s trademark “V-motion” look. Designers added a squared-off front fascia, a bull-bar-inspired V-strut grille, and C-shaped lighting signatures to tie the truck into Nissan’s SUV line-up.
Inside, the dashboard architecture, screen sizes, and switchgear layout are the same as the L200. Nissan-specific colours, textures and graphics differentiate the Navara, but at a glance, the only difference between the two vehicles is the badge on the steering wheel.
Equipment levels are strong, though, with every model getting a 9.0-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch digital driver display, as well as a raft of safety technology like lane departure warning and emergency lane assist, blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, and a driver monitoring camera.
Nissan Navara: UK availability in 2026?
Nissan has no plans to bring the new Navara back to the UK, but the truck’s arrival still matters. Mitsubishi is gearing up for its 2026 return to the UK market, and we expect the L200 to be part of its plan.
Although the Navara itself isn’t heading back to the UK in 2026, its reappearance in another market is effectively a second validation of the same engineering.
