Hyvia and Hype have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate decarbonised hydrogen mobility. Hyvia, a joint venture between Renault Group and Plug, focuses on hydrogen mobility, while Hype is an independent leader in zero-emission mobility and hydrogen taxis.

This collaboration is founded on a shared vision that decarbonised hydrogen mobility is essential for the energy transition needed to address climate change and public health challenges. The joint goal is to rapidly develop practical uses for decarbonised hydrogen mobility, facilitating volume growth that will reduce costs.

The partnership encompasses the entire hydrogen (H2) mobility ecosystem, from supplying decarbonised hydrogen to establishing refuelling stations and deploying hydrogen vehicles. Hyvia’s 1 MW electrolyser at its Flins plant will provide decarbonised hydrogen to Hype’s refuelling station network in the Paris region. Hyvia will help Hype deploy two H2 refuelling stations by the end of 2024 through its leasing offers. One of these stations, the Hywell station, co-developed with Atawey and supported by the Maurin group, will be located at the Renault Corbeil-Essonnes dealership, enhancing the Paris region’s H2 refuelling infrastructure. The first station will be operational by the summer of 2024 at Hype’s Buc site, developed in partnership with B.E. Green, a French specialist in zero-emission buses and coaches.

“Supply of decarbonised hydrogen, hydrogen stations and vans, financing solution: we are accelerating the deployment of hydrogen mobility thanks to this strategic partnership with Hype, a major player in the H2 sector, zero-emission solutions and hydrogen taxis,” explains Nicolas Champetier, CEO at Hyvia. “Building on our complementarity and our pioneering commitments, together we are deploying hydrogen ecosystems enabling the decarbonisation of intensive usages, for a necessary energy transition.”

In terms of hydrogen vehicles, Hype will use the high-capacity Renault Master H2-Tech van for its intensive operations. Hyvia will supply a minimum of nine additional vehicles throughout 2024 to customers around Hype stations, financed by Hyvia and included in Hype’s Last Mile program with support from the Ile-de-France Region, ADEME, and the European Connecting Europe Facility.

The partnership leverages the complementary strengths of both companies. Hyvia provides a unique and comprehensive ecosystem along with financing solutions that facilitate the deployment of decarbonised hydrogen mobility projects. Meanwhile, Hype brings an integrated zero-emission platform, including a fleet and booking application dedicated to zero-emission taxis and green hydrogen distribution stations. Hype’s Last Mile program further underscores its commitment to zero-emission solutions.

“We are very pleased with this partnership, which will enable us to continue to accelerate our deployment in the relevant uses of decarbonised hydrogen mobility,” adds Mathieu Gardies, founder and chief executive officer at Hype. “Hyvia, the result of an alliance between the world’s leading US pure player in low-carbon hydrogen, Plug, and the French carmaker Renault Group, a historic pioneer in 100% electric vehicles, symbolises the right approach to responding effectively to the climate emergency.

“We see its electric vehicles, which combine the advantages of a reasonably sized rechargeable battery and a hydrogen system, as the most appropriate technological platform for a rational and pragmatic transition to zero-emission mobility. Hyvia has also innovated with its financing solution, which meets the needs of its customers and accelerates and secures the deployment of H2 ecosystems.”
