Iveco likes to remind van operators that its all-electric eDaily is a tough vehicle, but how strong is it? That question has been answered now that a standard 3.5-tonne Iveco eDaily has pulled more than 153 tonnes, setting a new Guinness world record in the process.
The record-breaking eDaily was attached to an Iveco X-Way Strator truck built for Iveco customer G&B Finch, a haulage company in Essex. This truck was tailored to handle large loads of up to 150 tonnes, and that capability was being tested by adding a huge Collard Group earth-mover weighing more than 50 tonnes. An extra seven tonnes of ballast was added, just for good measure.
Behind that was a fully-loaded Iveco X-Way 8×4 tipper truck, with an all-terrain airport fire truck completing the 153.58-tonne road train.
Iveco provided an entirely standard eDaily van. The electric motor produces 190hp and 400Nm of torque, all delivered through the rear wheels — a Telsa Model X, an electric car with four-wheel drive, held the previous record of 130 tonnes.
Britain’s current Strongest Man, Adam Bishop, was behind the wheel during the record attempt at Blackbushe airport. Once it started moving, the Iveco eDaily made steady progress along the mandated 100ft course and crossed the finish line in front of the Guinness invigilators to claim the world record
. The van’s ‘hi-power’ mode — fitted to every eDaily as standard — was utilised on the run, which provides bursts of additional power in demanding towing conditions for the all-electric van.
“The van was incredible,” explained Adam Bishop. “The scale of its challenge and what it towed was unbelievable, but it rolled up its sleeves and got on with the job. Amazing!”
Iveco UK light business-line director Mike Cutts added: “The Iveco eDaily has made history with this impressive record, reinforcing the strength, durability, and extensive capabilities of the eDaily. With an initial target of 130 tonnes, the eDaily far surpassed record requirements. I would like to thank everyone who came together to make this possible — it was a real team effort.”
Operators undertaking demanding towing missions can now confidently rely on the eDaily to cope with its 3.5-tonne towing capacity.
