Mercedes-Benz Vans has previewed the design and technology direction for its next generation of people carriers with the unveiling of the Vision V concept — a luxury limousine-style MPV that also gives an early glimpse at the future of the Vito panel van.
While the Vision V is an all-electric chauffeur-driven showpiece brimming with high-end details — from cinema screens to silk-trimmed sideboards — the core takeaway for van operators is the underlying platform: Mercedes’ new Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA). This scalable, modular EV platform is set to underpin a full range of models from 2026 onwards, including the successor to today’s eVito.
Recognising the continued demand for diesel-powered vans, Mercedes recently introduced the VAN.CA (Van Combustion Architecture) platform, which shares around 70% of its components with VAN.EA. This commonality enables Mercedes to produce both electric and ICE models on the same assembly lines.
Details on the new Vito are scarce for now, but it will likely share much of its chassis and structural layout with the vehicle shown in Vision V form, with both diesel and electric power options. That likely means a longer wheelbase, better aerodynamics, and more efficient packaging for both electric and combustion components, all of which should contribute to better efficiency, performance and load-carrying capabilities.
Expect the new Vito to offer digital cockpit options and enhanced driver-assistance systems inspired by its more luxurious sibling. However, van buyers can safely ignore much of the luxury content showcased in the Vision V: features like cinema screens, ambient fragrance dispensers, and Nappa leather lounge chairs won’t be making the leap to the loading bay. Instead, the Vito’s focus will remain firmly on practicality, efficiency, and usability for fleet and SME customers.
This is the first of several announcements expected from Mercedes-Benz Vans ahead of the VAN.EA and related VAN.CA rollout in 2026. With the platform also set to underpin the replacement for the Sprinter, the next few years are shaping up to be a major turning point for the brand’s commercial vehicle line-up.
