Virgin Media O2 is taking on 101 Renault Master E‑Tech electric vans to support its engineers in maintaining its nationwide broadband network.
The new electric vans will be used by network engineers working across the UK, with each vehicle expected to cover around 13,000 miles per year during a planned five-year operating cycle.

Each van has been converted to support field engineering work, with a specification including rear racking, a workbench, additional lighting, a 240-volt inverter power system, ladder loaders and a roof-mounted solar panel.
The vehicles are supplied via leasing provider Ayvens, with Lookers acting as the supplying retailer.

Virgin Media O2 said the Renault Master van’s 285-mile maximum WLTP range and availability in L2H2 body configuration were decisive factors in the procurement process.
The medium-length, medium-roof layout provides enough internal headroom for engineers to work inside the van while maintaining manoeuvrability in urban areas.
Michael Brown, head of fleet and EV propositions at Virgin Media O2, said the vans needed to support engineers working in a wide variety of locations.
“Our Network Engineers need vehicles that can support them wherever they’re working, whether busy city centres or rural locations,” he said. “The Renault Master E-Tech electric offered the range we need, along with the right configuration to support our engineers on the road and on site.”
He added that the rollout is part of the company’s broader effort to electrify its fleet as it works towards net-zero emissions by 2040.
Justin Costello, head of fleet at Renault Group UK, said the order demonstrates the growing capability of electric large vans for nationwide operations.
“Virgin Media O2’s decision to introduce over 100 Master E-Tech vans underlines how electric LCVs are now delivering real-world capability for demanding fleet operations,” he said.

The Renault Master E-Tech electric uses a 143hp motor producing 300Nm of torque paired with an 87kWh battery, delivering a WLTP range of up to 285 miles. DC rapid charging at up to 130kW can add up to 142 miles of range in around 30 minutes, helping operators maintain uptime between jobs.
