Volkswagen has expanded its Caddy lineup with the introduction of the Caddy eHybrid, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) offering up to 75 miles of electric-only range.
The Caddy eHybrid pairs a 115hp 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 150hp and 350Nm of torque. Power goes to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The vehicle’s 19.7kWh battery allows for a significant electric driving range — official WLTP lab-based figures suggest up to 75 miles. With the average van covering fewer than 50 miles per day, it’s suitable for most missions, but particularly for urban environments where zero-emission vehicles are increasingly required.
Recharging the Caddy eHybrid’s battery can be done at home using AC wall boxes at up to 11kW, while the van will accept up to 50kW from a rapid DC charger. A 10-minute top-up while picking up some lunch should add enough energy to the battery to power the van for another 30 miles.
Traditional 1.5-litre petrol (TSI) and 2.0-litre diesel (TDI) engines will continue to be available alongside the eHybrid.
The updated Volkswagen Caddy comes with a host of standard features to improve safety and convenience. These include a digital instrument cluster, a voice assistant with ChatGPT functionality, cruise control, and parking sensors, as well as advanced driver assistance systems like lane keeping assist and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring. The vehicle also features additional airbags and a multifunction steering wheel as standard.
Updated safety technology ensured that the Caddy Cargo received a Platinum rating in the most recent round of Euro NCAP Commercial Van Ratings, highlighting the effectiveness of the vehicle’s safety systems in real-world conditions.
Volkswagen Caddy eHybrid Pricing and Availability
In Germany, the Caddy Cargo eHybrid’s pricing starts at €36,985 (£31,600) before taxes and fees for the standard wheelbase version and €39,055 (£33,400) for the long-wheelbase Maxi version. UK prices will be announced later this year.
