Maxus is readying itself for the debut of its eDeliver 5 van in the UK. Slotting into the range between the compact eDeliver 3 and the newly launched eDeliver 7, the eDeliver 5 looks set to rival more stylish vans such as the Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo as well as conventional rivals like the Ford Transit Custom and Vauxhall Vivaro.
Built around the same platform as the eDeliver 7, the more compact van is fitted with a 51kWh battery pack in its home market of China, which drives a 95hp motor. In the UK, it’s likely to use the same 77kWh battery pack and 204hp electric motor as its bigger brother, which should lead to lively performance in a smaller, lighter van.
With the same amount of energy stored as in its larger eDeliver 7 sibling, we can estimate the electric vehicle range at more than 225 miles. Rapid charging will also be possible at rates of up to 80kW, ensuring a 20-80% charge can be completed in around 35 minutes.
Despite its smaller dimensions—the eDeliver 5 will measure up to 4.8 metres long, which is about 20cm shorter than a Vauxhall Vivaro—cargo volume is given at up to 7.3m3, which compares to the 4.8m3 of the smaller eDeliver 3 and up to 6.7m3 of the larger eDeliver 7. Access to the load box is made easier with sliding doors to both sides of the van and barn door-style rear doors. A floor height of 520mm should make manual loading a little easier, too.
Maxus is expected to offer two body lengths, and the option of a chassis cab for bodybuilders and converters, but complete cargo volume details will be revealed when the van is officially revealed at the Commercial Vehicle Show
in April.
Likewise, payload limits are currently unknown, although the eDeliver 7 has an impressive maximum limit of 1,200kg. It would be safe to assume that some variants of the new eDeliver 5 could reach up to 1,000kg.
A minimalist cabin promises a 12.3-inch infotainment screen mounted in the centre of the dashboard, with a smaller digital display for the driver’s instrument panel. The predominantly digital experience is balanced by practical touches, such as 18 storage spaces around the passenger area that can swallow up to 100 litres of bits and bobs.
Maxus eDeliver 5: Price and Availability
The first chance to see the eDeliver 5 in the UK will be at its debut at April’s Commercial Vehicle Show, where it will join the rest of the Maxus range. Pricing details have yet to be announced, but the first UK deliveries are expected towards the end of the year.
