The new Kia PV5 electric van has taken the top prize at the 2026 International Van of the Year (IVOTY) awards, becoming the first Korean model to win the title.

Voted for by 26 commercial vehicle journalists across Europe, the awardExternal link image is a significant milestone for Kia. Although the brand is well established in passenger cars, the fully electric PV5 is its first ground-up commercial vehicle for Europe, and its first dedicated model from the brand’s new PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) division.

IVOTY chairman Jarlath Sweeney said the PV5 “sets a new benchmark” for electric vans, singling out its mix of efficiency, capability and practicality. “Kia has long been celebrated for its award-winning cars,” added Sweeney, “and now, its van division is making an equally powerful impact on the industry.”

Ho Sung Song, Kia’s President & CEO, echoed that sentiment, highlighting that the van was developed from scratch using customer feedback rather than adapted from an existing combustion model.

Song described the win as “an exceptional honour,” adding that the PV5’s win reinforces the manufacturer’s belief that it can “redefine this segment and continue shaping the future of smart, sustainable and electric mobility for businesses around the world.”

The PV5 promises up to 258 miles of WLTP range in Cargo form, and achieved 257 miles during Professional Pickup’s testing with a 400kg payload. A fully loaded version recently set a new Guinness World Record, covering 430 miles on a single charge. The van supports fast DC charging from 10–80% in under 30 minutes and offers payloads of up to 790kg, depending on configuration.

The PV5 is available as a Cargo van or Passenger model. Kia will broaden the line-up through 2026 with a Chassis Cab, a short-wheelbase Cargo model, and a high-roof Cargo model.

Larger PBV models — the PV7 and PV9 — are also in development.
