The Isuzu D-Max has been updated for the 2019 model year, with slight alterations to the interior, new technologies and a new suspension arrangement for a more comfortable ride.
Isuzu D-Max: Solid Workhorse
While the Isuzu has been criticised for its lack of refinement, there’s no denying its rugged workhorse nature. Our Pickup Reliability Survey of over 400 pickup truck operators revealed the Isuzu D-Max to be the most reliable pickup in the UK, and it was one of the first pickups to offer a 3.5t towing capacity.
Isuzu D-Max: Changes for 2019
This round of improvements, however, focuses on those traditional weaknesses. The number of leaf springs has reduced from five to three, and we noticed a huge improvement to ride quality, handling and noise from the road.
However, the D-Max’s respected loading and towing capabilities haven’t been compromised as they’re now composed of higher strength steel.
The towing capacity remains at 3.5 tonnes, while the overall payload has actually increased by 10kg thanks to having fewer springs – which is ideal as it’s centred around the rear axle. Furthermore, Isuzu claims that the new steel has increased its longevity by improving hydrogen resistance and slowing down corrosion.
On all 4×4 models, Trailer Sway Control is now a standard feature. The system uses sensors to detect trailer sway and gently reduces the engine torque and applies the brakes to individual wheels to counter the movement.
Isuzu D-Max: Interior Updates
While the overall layout hasn’t changed, the armrests, binnacle and utility box lid are now composed of a cushioned ‘soft pad’ material which gives a more premium feel than the previous hard plastics. The air vents, glove box and window switches are now finished in a glossy black trim, and they also incorporate a new D-Max emblem.
Isuzu D-Max: Splash of Colour
There are three new colours offered on the D-Max; Spinel Red, Sapphire Blue and Galena Grey. The range-topping Blade will now be available in four colours, with the addition of Obsidian Grey and Spinel Red now offered in the colour line-up.
Isuzu D-Max: Price and Availability
This is a very mild update so prices have only increased marginally to between £16,799 for the 4×2 Utility and £29,799 for the flagship Blade model with automatic transmission. All prices are plus VAT, of course.
The updated D-Max is now available to test and buy from Isuzu dealers. The Isuzu D-Max update is backed by the impressive five-year, 125,000-mile warranty, and the service intervals are set at 12,000 miles or two years.
