The Ineos Grenadier is a capable off-road vehicle, but commercial users have been frustrated at paying VAT on the Utility Wagon version. The manufacturer has resolved that problem, launching the Grenadier Commercial, a customised version of the 4×4 that qualifies owners to reclaim VAT and receive lower benefit-in-kind tax rates.
Replacing the existing two-seat Utility Wagon, the Grenadier Commercial features several changes to ensure it qualifies as a commercial vehicle. The rear windows have been replaced with aluminium panels — perfect for sign writing — while the rear passenger door windows have been blacked out, along with the twin windows on the 30/70 split rear cargo doors. Chassis mounting points inside the vehicle have been permanently disabled, preventing a second row of seats from being added.
The cargo area now benefits from a full-length flat floor with a floor-to-roof cargo barrier behind the two front seats, ensuring that a standard Euro pallet measuring 1,200mm by 800mm can be carried safely. Loaded to the roof, more than 2,000 litres of cargo volume is available.
As with the regular Grenadier, power is delivered by a BMW 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol or diesel engine, which gives the 4×4 a braked towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes. The Grenadier Commercial also retains the box-section ladder frame chassis, heavy-duty solid beam axles, two-speed transfer case and up to three locking differentials.

Ineos will continue to build the Grenadier at its Hambach facility in France, with the conversion to the Commercial version being undertaken in the UK by Pontypool-based engineering specialists EDC Limited.
Prices start at £51,931 plus VAT and on-the-road costs. Dealers can take orders now, with first customer deliveries expected towards the end of June.
