Out of the Darkness: Ford Ranger Black Edition

Revealed last year, the Ford Ranger Black Edition that gives the UK’s best-selling pickup a distinctive new look, is now available for customers to order.

Ranger Black Edition: Specification

The Black Edition is based on the Ranger’s Limited trim level and, inside, very little separates the two. The usual Limited features include cruise control, a bed liner, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, chrome finish on door mirrors and handles, electric windows, heated front seats with an 8-way electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, rear privacy glass and a 12v socket in the load area.

Infotainment is provided by a DAB radio system with an integrated CD player and an 8.0-inch TFT touchscreen display. It also includes SYNC 3 with voice control, steering wheel-mounted controls, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Emergency Assistance.

However, Black Edition customers also receive satellite navigation, front parking sensors and a rearview camera.

The de-chromed exterior differs considerably to the Ford Ranger Limited; there is a black grille, similar to the Wildtrak, along with six-spoke 17-inch black alloy wheels, and a black sports bar and exterior details. The regular Limited features such as front and rear mud flaps and the C-Channel tie-downs are also included.

Ranger Black Edition: Price and Availability

The Ford Ranger Black Edition is available for £27,995 plus VAT, which is £1,050 more than the Limited model. This is relatively good value for money considering you also receive satellite navigation, front parking sensors, a rearview camera and the ‘blacked out’ exterior.

Fewer than 1,000 models have been reserved for the UK, all with the lower-powered 2.2TDCi 161bhp/385Nm engine, and so dealers are reluctant to discount them at the same rate as standard models, which means there will be very little price walk to the better-specced Wildtrak.
