Ford has given businesses a look at its compact electric van, the E-Transit Courier, showcasing it at the IAA Transportation show in an early debut. This sneak peek comes weeks before its official launch and completes the brand’s electric Transit lineup.
Although Ford first teased the new Transit Courier and E-Transit Courier around 18 months ago, specifics on the electric version were sparse until now. At IAA, the company revealed that the E-Transit Courier will have a usable battery capacity of 43 kWh, providing up to 186 miles of range on the WLTP cycle. In terms of practicality, it boasts a 700kg payload capacity and a load area that’s 25% larger compared to its predecessor, the standard Transit Courier.
Charging won’t be a hassle, either. Ford confirmed that the van will support up to 100kW DC fast charging, meaning drivers can juice up from 10% to 80% in about 23 minutes. The onboard 11kW charger will fully replenish the battery in 5.7 hours for those using AC three-phase charging. Efficiency will also be improved by the ‘one-pedal’ driving system that uses regenerative braking to slow and even stop the E-Transit Courier.
Inside, Ford aims to keep things user-friendly and connected. The cabin features two 12.0-inch displays — one for the driver and the other for the infotainment system. Ford’s Sync 4 system runs behind the screens, with the cloud-connected setup promising smooth communication and entertainment.
Production of the E-Transit Courier is slated to begin in late 2024, with the first customer deliveries expected in 2025.
The IAA show wasn’t just about the E-Transit Courier. Ford displayed the full range of its electric and hybrid Transit models, including the E-Transit, E-Transit Custom, and the Transit Connect PHEV. It also used the show to give the Ranger PHEV its global debut. Ford also used the event to highlight new features in its connected services, such as advanced charging solutions, a digital logbook in Ford Pro Telematics, and enhanced vehicle uptime through FordLiive.
