Kia has given the world its first proper look at the upcoming PV5 electric van, revealing a bold exterior design ahead of its full debut later this month.
First previewed as a concept at CES 2024, the mid-sized PV5 Cargo is Kia’s load-lugging variant of the PV5. It’s designed as a highly adaptable electric van with multiple configurations to suit different needs.
Kia says the PV5 moves beyond conventional commercial vehicle designs by focusing on flexibility and modularity. To show that off, it plans to offer the van in a range of configurations, initially with a Passenger Van joining the Cargo Van.
Additional specialist variants will be revealed later this month at Kia’s EV Day in Spain.
Karim Habib, the head of Kia Global Design, described the PV5 as a model that balances practicality with a strong, futuristic aesthetic. “While the PV5 is offered in three different body styles to provide solutions for a diverse range of customer needs, they all share the same design philosophy,” he said.
The PV5 has a bold, modern look that reflects Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. The van’s clean upper body contrasts with a more rugged lower section, which features protective black geometric wheel arch claddings and rocker panels.
This modular approach extends to the bumper corners, which are interchangeable to improve both durability and functionality.
From the front, the PV5 has a minimalist yet high-tech appearance, with integrated lighting elements running into the A-pillar. The cab is wrapped in gloss black, giving the van a visual differentiator from other LCVs on the market.
It’s more conventional at the back, where a straight-sided cargo box ends with twin side-opening rear doors.
Kia’s PBV strategy offers flexible solutions that can be adapted for multiple industries, including logistics, public transport, and, for the Passenger Van, ride-sharing services. By emphasising modularity, Kia hopes to cater to businesses that require vehicles capable of evolving alongside their operational needs.
The full details of the PV5, including its technical specifications and the range of available configurations, will be unveiled on 24 February at Kia’s EV Day event.
