Renault unveiled the Trafic-based Hippie Caviar Hotel concept last year and is following that with this year’s Kangoo E-Tech-based Hippie Caviar Motel.

Both vehicles address the growing post-Covid yearning for travel, promising the ability to embrace nature while enjoying the luxury and comfort of a bespoke camper conversion.

While the new Hippie Caviar Motel might not provide the five-star luxury promised by last year’s model, it is a roving, versatile and sprightly shelter for adventure and sports enthusiasts keen on wide open spaces and thrills.

Renault Kangoo E-Tech Hippie Caviar Motel

This converted van, built around the new Renault Kangoo L2 E-Tech Electric, is designed as a base camp that can hop effortlessly from one spot to the next. The 45kWh battery pack in the Hippie Caviar Motel has a 177-mile range, and it takes just 30 minutes to extend it by 105 miles, thanks to the ability to recharge at 80kW.

The concept car is brimming with examples of Renault’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions throughout the vehicle’s life cycle – including the shelves and floor made of recycled tyres and cork, and the all-electric powertrain.

Several smart storage spaces can carry sports kits inside and outside the vehicle. The roof rack can hold skis and still has plenty of space for a huge panoramic roof to enjoy the stars after folding down the bench into a comfortable bed.

Pricing and Availability

The Hippie Caviar Motel is just a concept for now, but last year’s Hotel version ultimately led to the Renault Trafic SpaceNomad converted van.
