Vauxhall has unveiled what might be the most British van concept of the year: a Vivaro Electric fitted out not for tools or materials, but for making the perfect cup of tea.
Called the Vauxhall Vivaro Electrici-TEA, the one-off build takes the idea of tradespeople running on brews and turns it into a mobile tea station.
According to research commissioned by Vauxhall, the average UK tradesperson gets through three to four cups of tea a day, and almost half say a good cuppa can “make their day”. No surprise, then, that 93% of those surveyed said they’d happily make tea on the go if they had the kit for it.

A brew bar in the back of a van
The Electrici-TEA concept is exactly that kit. Built into the Vivaro Electric’s 6.6m³ load bay sits a compact tea-making module accessed through the sliding side door. It includes:
- An electric kettle
- Tea bag dispenser (stocked with Yorkshire Tea, PG Tips or Tetley — as voted for by tradespeople)
- A one-minute-53-second “perfect brew” timer
- Sink with 10-litre water supply
- Fridge for milk or milk alternatives
- Storage tins for biscuits and snacks
- Thermal mugs for drinking on the move
Everything is mounted in custom housings, so it stays put when the van is out on the job.
The science of the builder’s brew
As part of its tea research, Vauxhall claims to have cracked the formula for the ideal cup:
- Tea bag first
- Brew for 1:53
- Medium strength, semi-skimmed milk
- Serve “warm, not boiling”
- Add one or two sugars
- Dunk a chocolate digestive
Still a proper electric van
Silly concept aside, the van underneath is familiar territory. The Vivaro Electric comes with a 75kWh battery, up to 219 miles of range, and the ability to rapid-charge from 5–80% in around 45 minutes. It remains one of the UK’s top-selling electric vans, even without a tea station.
Vauxhall’s Managing Director, Steve Catlin, said the concept was created to highlight just how essential a decent hot drink is to the UK’s trade workforce and to emphasise the flexibility of the Vivaro Electric platform.
“With 90% of tradespeople saying that a good hot drink has a positive impact on their day, we wanted to create the ultimate tea-making solution,” he said. “It’s time we put an end to poorly made cuppas and give tradespeople the right tool for the job.”
The Vauxhall Vivaro Electrici-TEA is strictly a one-off, but given the nation’s appetite for both vans and tea, you wouldn’t bet against someone trying to build their own version.
