Nissan has unveiled its all-new Interstar van, including an electric version badged as the Interstar-e. The new model, which shares much with the new Renault Master, brings new features to the Nissan range to improve efficiency, reliability, and comfort.
The cabin has been given a significant revamp, offering a more comfortable and functional workspace. Additional storage compartments provide up to 135 litres of cabin storage, while features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included as standard.
Safety is a key focus, with features such as Forward Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition included. An electronically managed braking system improves performance and consistency regardless of the van’s load. The Interstar has already received a ‘Platinum’ rating in the Euro NCAP safety tests.
Electric and Diesel Power
The Interstar-e is Nissan’s first fully electric large van, available with either a 40kWh battery for shorter urban trips or an 87kWh option for longer ranges. According to Nissan, the larger battery supports a maximum charging rate of 130kW, enabling a rapid top-up of up to 157 miles in just 30 minutes. Charging options also include AC chargers — up to 22kW for the 87kWh battery and 11kW for the 40kWh battery — providing flexibility for depot-based recharging.
Diesel models of the Nissan Interstar will be offered with a 2.0-litre engine delivering 170hp and 380Nm of torque. These models come with either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission and promise improved fuel efficiency, with consumption figures as low as 38.1mpg.
Innovative aerodynamic work reduces drag on all models by as much as 20% compared to the previous generation, lowering energy bills across the range, whether powered by diesel or electricity.
Payload and Towing
Nissan’s new Interstar provides a load space ranging from 10.8m3 in the L2H2 configuration to 14.8m3 in the L3H3 variant. A wide side door measuring 1,312mm improves ease of access,
Vans with a four-tonne GVW promise a payload of up to 1.9 tonnes for the diesel models, dropping to 1.6 tonnes for EV models. Sticking at 3.5 tonnes GVW will see those figures drop by 500kg.
Towing limits reach as high as 2,500kg.
For businesses with specific needs, the Interstar will be available in several factory-built conversions, including Tipper, Dropside, and Box configurations.
Pricing and Availability
The new Nissan Interstar will be available from January 2025, with pre-orders already open. Prices of the Nissan Interstar start at £32,390 (excluding VAT) for the entry-level diesel model.
