International Motors, the UK importers of Isuzu LCVs, is in advanced discussions to take over the Mitsubishi after-sales business in the autumn, pending the completion of a successful due diligence process which is currently well underway.
Previously, Mitsubishi was in talks with SsangYong, with the Korean firm looking at taking over the entire UK business, including new vehicle sales, but those talks collapsed. Following Mitsubishi’s announcement that it will be leaving the UK market, a number of dealers have left the group, with owners expressing concern about ongoing support despite the firm’s reassurance that after-sales services would be maintained.
For International Motors, the acquisition of the Mitsubishi after-sales business would represent an opportunity to grow its parts and accessories operation and to engage with a broader customer base for whom the Subaru and Isuzu ranges should be a perfect fit.
“We are widely recognised for our award-winning customer service and we are confident that we will be able to offer the high quality of service Mitsubishi customers are accustomed to,” explained Andrew Edmiston, managing director at IM Group. ”We have a longstanding relationship with Mitsubishi Corporation and a good track record of representing Japanese brands in the UK market. This fits perfectly with our long-term strategy to expand our automotive business.”
For Mitsubishi in the UK, the sale would ensure the quality of service it provides to its customers and its dealer network would be maintained well into the future. It will also provide long term security and opportunities for as many of its staff as possible.
“There is an excellent fit between the Mitsubishi Motors brand and International Motors,” explained Rob Lindley, the Colt Car Company (the UK importers of Mitsubishi vehicles) managing director. “They, too, are deeply committed to taking great care of their customers and I feel very confident that IM will be an outstanding long-term partner to our Mitsubishi dealers too. Once the due diligence process has been completed, the team at the Colt Car Company will work hard to ensure that the transition is a success, thereby ensuring the best possible outcome for our employees, dealers and customers.”
The commercial details of the arrangement will remain confidential at this time. Pending a successful conclusion, more details will be announced in due course.
