Ineos is dramatically reducing the size of its UK dealer network as part of a strategic overhaul aimed at strengthening aftersales support and preparing for long-term growth.
The brand, best known among van operators for the rugged Grenadier Commercial and Quartermaster pickup, is cutting its dealer representation by more than half. The current footprint of 26 sites operated by 19 dealers will shrink to just 12 locations, run by eight to ten dealers.
Speaking to Car Dealer Magazine
, Ineos regional director for the UK and Ireland, Tom Johnson, said the restructuring is part of a broader effort to “right-size” the brand’s UK presence after a rapid rollout.
“We’re pleased with the performance we’ve achieved to date,” said Johnson, “but we had quite a wide network of partners across the UK and I think we probably grew a bit too quickly. We’ve taken this opportunity to reshape and right-size the network … giving each of our partners an area of influence.”
The revised dealer network is intended to deliver a more focused and consistent customer experience, particularly in key areas such as aftersales, finance, and used vehicle support. The reduction in sites will also allow Ineos to allocate larger geographic territories to its remaining retail partners, giving them greater influence and, potentially, improved profitability.
While some closures have already taken place, Johnson confirmed to Car Dealer Magazine that Ineos is actively looking to fill gaps, particularly in the South and South East of England, as it rebalances its network. “There’s a little bit of white space through this transition that I’m actively back-filling,” he said. “Meanwhile, we are also bolstering our aftersales provision across the network.”
Customers affected by site closures are being offered collection and delivery support for vehicle servicing and repairs, with Ineos keen to minimise disruption during the changeover.
The revised structure also comes as Ineos begins building out its used vehicle operations. Johnson said the brand is “starting to see the cycle of customers coming off their initial finance offers” and confirmed the launch of a new online platform for dealers to list and sell used vehicles.
Ineos currently offers the Grenadier in both passenger and commercial form, alongside the Quartermaster pickup launched in 2024. Earlier plans to add a smaller electric model, the Fusilier, have been placed on indefinite hold.
