KGM Musso EV is a half-tonne electric pickup with 249-mile range • Professional Pickup

While some UK publications are breathlessly comparing the forthcoming KGM Musso EV pickup to the Tesla Cybertruck — it’s nothing like it! — the Korean firm is quietly getting on with the job of bringing its Torres EVX-based truck to the UK.

The urban-focused electric truck promises to blend the practicality of a pickup with the refinement of an SUV. Pre-orders in its South Korean homeland have opened ahead of its local launch later this month, with UK vehicles expected in late 2025.

Powertrain and battery

The Musso EV is powered by a 152.2kW (207hp) motor driving the front wheels. Energy is supplied by an 80.6kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery, which will provide a driving range of 249 miles on a full charge.

To enhance safety, the Musso EV features an advanced battery monitoring system that checks its status every 10 minutes when parked. Additionally, a multi-layered voltage and temperature management system is in place to ensure stability even during charging. KGM backs this up with a 10-year or 1 million km (620,000 miles) warranty, reportedly the longest in Korea, along with compensation of up to 500 million Korean won (£270,000) in the event of a battery-related fire.

Payload and practicality

The Musso EV promises an SUV-like experience inside the cabin. The second-row seats provide flexibility with a sliding function and a 32-degree reclining angle, all with an 850mm seat pitch.

With a 500kg payload, the Musso EV is suited to leisure and light commercial use but falls well short of the 1,000kg capacity of the Maxus T90EV. KGM has opted for a car-like integrated body and deck structure rather than a traditional ladder-frame chassis, which suggests it’s prioritising refinement over heavy-duty capability.

Features and technology

Standard equipment on Korean-spec Musso EVs includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an Alpine audio system, natural leather seats, and an intelligent adaptive cruise control system. It also features an outdoor-friendly Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) connector, allowing users to power electrical equipment directly from the pickup’s battery.

Optional extras include a sunroof, all-wheel drive, a self-levelling suspension system, and a 3D around-view monitoring system. KGM also offers various customisation packages; the ‘Style Up Package’ adds a deck roll bar and roof flat carrier, while the ‘Clean Deck Package’ includes a sliding cover and deck divider. For outdoor enthusiasts, the ‘Outdoor Package’ provides a roof crossbar and deck storage box.

KGM Musso EV pricing and availability

Pricing in Korea starts at 48 million won (£26,000), rising to 50.5 million won (£27,300) for the DLX model. With government incentives applied, that price can drop to around 30 million won (£16,200), but don’t expect to order one in the UK for that price.

We’d expect a price tag slightly higher than the Torres EVX that it’s based on, which means a starting price of around £50,000, including VAT. That will undercut the UK’s only EV pickup, the Maxus T90EV, by around £10,000.

The first models should arrive in the UK before the end of the year.
