Renault is reviving some of its most iconic van names as it expands its electric commercial vehicle range, blending heritage with modern technology. The upcoming lineup, consisting of the Estafette, Goelette, and Trafic, is designed to provide businesses with scalable and flexible transport solutions.
While the Trafic caters to traditional van users, the Goelette offers greater versatility for conversions, and the Estafette prioritises urban logistics.
Modular approach to electric vans
The three models will be developed with Flexis, a joint venture between Renault Group, Volvo Group, and CMA CGM Group. The partnership aims to create electric vans that can meet a variety of commercial needs, from urban logistics to larger-scale fleet operations.
The vans are built on a new “skateboard” platform that integrates Renault’s Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture, offering greater flexibility, connectivity, and lower running costs. The modular design allows for customisation, making the range suitable for multiple industries.
Trafic E-Tech Electric: Familiar name goes electric
The Trafic van, a staple of Renault’s commercial vehicle lineup since 1980, is entering its fourth generation with an all-electric variant. The Trafic E-Tech electric retains a familiar design while adopting new proportions to maximise interior space.
A short front overhang and extended wheelbase push the wheels to the corners, enhancing manoeuvrability while keeping the turning circle comparable to a Renault Clio. At under 1.90m in height, it’s also short enough to safely enter most car parks and other height-restricted areas.
The van features Renault’s latest design elements, including a central lighting strip and a backlit logo. A bold beltline hints at performance, while the rear features strongly curved, asymmetrical hinged doors, and a spoiler to optimise aerodynamics. The black lower body protection provides a perception of strength.
Goelette E-Tech Electric: Built for versatility
Renault is also reviving the Goelette name, originally used for a popular van in the 1950s and 60s. The new Goelette E-Tech electric is a multi-purpose vehicle, available in chassis cab, box, and tipper configurations to support a wide range of conversions.
Essentially a Trafic chassis cab model, the Goelette’s modular design allows for extensive customisation, accommodating various body types and specialist conversions. Unlike the Trafic, the Goelette features an open rear section, allowing for a virtually infinite range of custom fittings and making it a practical choice for businesses that need a tailor-made solution.
Estafette E-Tech Electric: Urban-focused design
Renault is also bringing back the Estafette name
for a van designed with city logistics in mind. The Estafette E-Tech electric is compact and highly manoeuvrable, measuring 5.27m long and 1.92m wide, making it suitable for navigating tight urban environments.
Inside, the van is designed for easy access, with a 2.60m height allowing a person up to 1.90m tall to move freely between the cab and cargo area. Features such as a sliding side door with an integrated track and a roller shutter rear door optimise loading and unloading in city settings.
Inspired by the Trafic E-Tech electric, the Estafette features a distinctive light signature with a light strip and precisely aligned daytime running lights. Ergonomic touches abound, such as running boards on both sides for easier entry and exit, and a sliding side door with a hidden track for smooth opening. At the rear, a single-piece roller shutter door optimises the load space.
Production and market availability
All three models will be manufactured at Renault’s Sandouville plant in France, reinforcing the company’s commitment to domestic production. While detailed specifications and pricing have yet to be announced, Renault plans to introduce the new electric van range in 2026, with further information expected in the coming months.
