Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo is a Real Treat for Medical Detection Dogs • Professional Pickup

Volkswagen has delivered an all-electric ID Buzz Cargo to Medical Detection Dogs, its charity partner for the year. The ID Buzz Cargo will help the charity transport its highly-trained dogs to and from training sessions, vet appointments, and home visits. For Medical Detection Dogs, this is the first time an all-electric vehicle has joined their fleet.

With its 3.9m³ payload, the ID Buzz Cargo has been specially converted to carry two custom-fitted crates, ensuring that the dogs are safe and secure on every journey. There’s also plenty of space for all the equipment needed for the dogs’ training — enough to avoid any unwanted ruff handling.

Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo and Medical Detection Dogs

Based in Milton Keynes, Medical Detection Dogs performs pioneering work in training dogs to detect the smell of human diseases. These pawsome animals are trained to identify the odour of serious illnesses like cancer, Parkinson’s, and bacterial infections. They also train Medical Alert Assistance Dogs, who detect subtle changes in their owners’ scent, helping individuals with conditions such as severe allergies, diabetes, and Addison’s disease to stay safe and avoid medical emergencies.

With over 200 people already benefiting from the support of Medical Alert Assistance Dogs, the charity’s work is a literal lifesaver. Its goal is to improve the speed and accuracy of diagnosing diseases using the extraordinary noses of these incredible dogs.

Charlotte Richardson, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Medical Detection Dogs, explained that finding the right vehicles to transport the dogs safely can be tricky. “The space and safety features provided by the ID Buzz Cargo will make the operational side of our training much easier,” she said, adding that the electric vehicle’s range also makes the switch to electric a smooth transition.
