Nissan has opened pre-orders for the diesel version of its new Interstar van, the latest version of the company’s largest light commercial vehicle (LCV). This new model, with an ‘assertive’ front grille and a truck-like presence, is larger and promises more versatility than its predecessor, catering to the diverse needs of various businesses by offering a range of configuration options.
“A new era for Nissan commercial vehicles starts today as we open UK pre-orders for our all-new Interstar,” commented Francesco Russiello, Nissan GB’s LCV category manager. “Our newest and largest van offering joins our award-winning small van, the Townstar, launched in 2023, and our established and successful mid-sized van, the Primastar, recently updated for 2024.”
Available in two trim levels, the entry-level Acenta trim includes essential features like manual air-conditioning, while the plusher Tekna trim offers additional upgrades, such as automatic air conditioning, a heated windscreen, rear-view camera, front parking sensors, and more. These upgrades come with a price increase of £1,200 plus VAT.
Inside, the Interstar’s cabin has been redesigned for improved comfort and convenience, with a more vertical steering wheel, a driver-oriented 10.1-inch touchscreen, and ample storage space, including a central seat-back workspace and under-seat storage box. The vehicle’s manoeuvrability has also been enhanced, with a smaller turning circle making it more adept at navigating urban environments.
Under the bonnet, the Interstar is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, available in a range of outputs from 105hp to 170hp, with torque between 330Nm and 380Nm. A six-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard, with a nine-speed automatic available as an option. The engine delivers fuel efficiency of up to 37.8mpg for N1 models, rising to 41.5mpg for N2 vans.
Safety remains a priority for Nissan, with the Interstar equipped with a comprehensive suite of standard safety features. These include Forward Emergency Braking, Drowsiness Warning, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. The vehicle also benefits from advanced driver assistance technologies like Lane Keep Assist, Intelligent Speed Assistance, and Side Wind Assist.
With a payload capacity approaching two tonnes and a towing capability of up to 2,500kg, the Interstar is positioned as a robust option for businesses with significant transport needs. That’s backed up by a wide range of factory-built conversions, including tipper, drop-side, and box van options. This flexibility is designed to meet the varied demands of businesses that require different capabilities, whether for maximum cargo volume, long-distance travel, or heavy-duty hauling. The van is offered in multiple configurations, including L2H2, L3H2, and L3H3 variants.
Nissan Interstar Pricing and Availability
Dealers can take pre-orders for the new Interstar now, with prices starting from £33,090 plus VAT. First deliveries are expected in the Autumn. An all-electric Interstar, predictably called the Interstar-e, will be revealed around the same time.
