Nissan has added a Crew Van option to its compact Townstar range, based on the long-wheelbase L2 model. Maximising flexibility, the five-seater van can switch from a people-focused vehicle to a twin-seater panel van in seconds.
The second-row seats can be folded up or down, allowing easy switching between passenger and cargo modes. With the seats in place, the van can comfortably carry five passengers. When additional cargo space is required, folding the seats provides an extra 1m3, increasing the total loading capacity to 3.1m3. The process is a one-person — and even one-handed — operation, making it easy to make the change.
Passengers in the back get all the usual comforts, including individual three-point seatbelts and head restraints, and side windows that open to allow fresh air into the cab. An integrated bulkhead also protects them from loose loads.
The Crew Van is designed for easy loading with one of the widest opening doors in its class and a payload of up to 730kg (petrol) or 673kg (electric). It also offers an impressive 1,500kg towing capacity.
Power comes from either a 1.3-litre petrol engine developing 130hp or a 122hp electric motor with a 45kWh battery pack providing up to 162 miles.
The Townstar Crew Van has an array of safety technology, including automatic emergency braking, intelligent speed assistance, traffic sign recognition, lane-keeping assistance, blind spot detection, a reversing camera and 360-degree parking sensors.
Technology includes smartphone connectivity. Alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Townstar Crew Van also pairs with the NissanConnect app. This offers seamless connectivity, providing drivers with information to plan journeys, live traffic updates, battery charging status, and remote control of the ventilation system, allowing drivers to have the cab heated or cooled before a journey begins.
Nissan Townstar Crew Van: Pricing and Availability
The new Nissan Townstar Crew Van is available to order now, with a starting price of £26,125 excluding VAT and fees for the petrol-powered model, rising to £38,295 before VAT, fees and the government’s plug-in van grant. Panel van models, available in short L1 and extended L2 lengths, start at £21,175 plus taxes and fees.
The Crew Van comes with Nissan’s usual five-year or 100,000-mile warranty, and the electric model’s battery pack is covered for an additional three years.
