SsangYong has updated its Musso pickup range, adding a Saracen+ variant with a longer load box and revised suspension. The new model sits at the top of the range, above the EX, Rebel and Saracen models.

The new Saracen+ model utilises the same chassis and platform as the standard double cab variants but features a load bed that’s 30cm longer, providing a greater cargo capacity. Plastic-lined and with a sturdy rear tailgate, the load area is capable of hauling greater loads whilst the double cab’s interior retains its ability to seat five adults in comfort.

Upgraded exterior styling, including black-finished door mirrors, beltline, and tailgate finisher, set the Saracen+ apart, while the addition of stylish black 18-inch alloy wheels further enhances the vehicle’s road presence.

All Musso variants are powered by the e-XDi220 engine, delivering 202hp at 3,800rpm and maximum torque of 441Nm at 1,600–2,600rpm, paired with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The new Musso Saracen+ takes on the double wishbone suspension with dual coil springs of the rest of the range, replacing the previous extended version’s leaf spring setup. The change ensures that the Musso can continue to carry and tow significant payloads — it’s the only pickup that can legally tow 3.5 tonnes and carry a one-tonne load simultaneously.

The revised SsangYong Musso range now includes four trim levels. The Musso EX is a short-bed model that’s the entry point to the range. It has newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels, a DAB radio, remote central locking that includes the tailgate, manual air conditioning, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers.

Building on the EX specification, the Musso Rebel adds roof rails, an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, leather-look heated and ventilated seats, a heated leather steering wheel, and black and silver side steps.

The Saracen trim level introduces a premium feel to the pickup, with a black exterior pack, new 18-inch black alloy wheels, Nappa leather seats, heated rear seats, climate control, a 9.2-inch infotainment screen, TomTom navigation, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and a host of safety technology.

The new Saracen+ model takes all that and adds an increased bed length and wheelbase, extra payload, ground clearance and Saracen+ graphics.
