So, every year, my boys and I, Brother James, have a New York City MLK guys’ weekend. It’s been one of the most insane and fun weekends that I have every year over the past decade. This year was no exception.
I took the DC2NY bus up early on Saturday Morning and arrived mid afternoon. Checked into my hotel and headed off to the Upper East Side. It’s a little after 4pm and the first beer is cracked. More people join including my brother and a good friend who used to work in DC. It gets to be about 15 of us just catching up, watching football, and drinking beers. This goes on for hours… our servers change shifts. We laugh, we’ve done this before. Needless to say that it was a very late night.
Woke up and met up with my boys again at Blondies on the Upper West side. Seriously some of the best buffalo wings I’ve ever had. After a few hours, I went on down to meet up with the guys from PickupArtistsEvents.com. The guy who runs the site suggested that I stop by Entropy’s event. The group was great. There was a huge group of guys trying to better themselves. I think this is one thing that most people don’t get. These groups are just your average individual trying to be something more… trying to reach the stars instead of settling for the every day life of boredom and broken dreams. Entropy seem to have a great grasp of Pickup and the details behind the interactions.
After the meeting, I went back up to the Upper West Side and met back up with my boys and had a few Guinness. Timothy Busfield of the Nerds and West Wing fame was drinking a few chairs down from us. Everyone was getting tired and about to crash, but my boy and I were still looking for fun in the city. We head a few bars down and I snag a Brother Jimmy’s shirt; it was too close to Brother James to pass up. I’m wondering how many people will catch this in DC. It’s pretty dead so we head down to the East Village.
We end up at this pretty cool bar. One of those bars that doesn’t have a sign outside; you just need to know where it is. That’s the one thing about DC. You really don’t have any neighborhood bars or cool unknown bars. If there is one in DC, it’s been found… and too many people know about it. I end up randomly chatting with the lovely Sophie Madeleine, a singer from the UK. She was quite unique and passionate about her music. Can’t believe I remembered her name, but listen to her; she’s quite remarkable. We also end up meeting some lawyers from Brooklyn. These ladies were very fun and live interesting lives.
I’ll leave it at that. You guys don’t get all of the juicy details.
Brother James
